Public input is an important part of the Parks & Recreation Department’s master planning. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which started at the beginning of this master planning, the project team has adapted the outreach and involvement process from what was originally proposed.

Specifically, the city held two additional public meetings in December 2021 to give community members another chance to share input and ideas, focused on what, if any, of their parks and recreation interests might have changed following the months-long stay at home orders of 2020 and 2021. In March 2022, the city also sought community input through an social media survey that generated nearly 1,800 responses.

The final step in the community input process is to perform a statistically reliable professional survey through an independent firm consistent with our previous Parks & Recreation Department master planning approach. This survey seeks to identify levels of support for a wide range of ideas that were shared through the earlier input opportunities.  Households were selected at random to take this survey, and have received it only via the United States Postal Service.  However, you can review a copy of the survey(enter hyperlink to pdf of the survey) and provide additional feedback.  If you have additional feedback , please share it through the online “Your Comments” form on the Home Page, or an email message sent to mick.calarco@carlsbadca.gov.
